Maple Bacon Wontons

RECIPE CONTEST ENTRY: Joanna Smart, Finalist in the Stella® "Taste of Authenticity" recipe contest

Ingredients

  • 15 oz. Stella® Ricotta cheese
  • 4 oz. Grated Stella® Fontina cheese
  • 1/2 c. Cooked, crumbled maple-cured bacon
  • 1/2 c. Chopped green onions
  • 1/4 tsp. Garlic powder
  • 1/8 tsp. ground Cayenne pepper
  • 1 large finely chopped jalapeno
  • 1 pkg. of wonton wrappers
  • 1 egg - separated
  • 1 tbs. + 3 tbs. Maple syrup
  • 5 oz. Plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 tsp. hot sauce

Directions

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. In a small bowl, mix yogurt, 3 tbs. Syrup and the hot sauce together and refrigerate until ready to use. In a larger bowl, combine cheeses, jalapeno, bacon, green onions, garlic and cayenne powders, the egg yolk, and 1 tbs. maple syrup. Mix to combine. Beat the egg white in a fingertip bowl and set aside. To make wontons, place wonton wrappers on a dry surface and dollop a scant teaspoon of cheese filling in the center. With fingertips, moisten lightly the edges all around the wonton wrapper with the egg white. Gather two opposite ends with one hand and using the other hand, pinching sides together to hold in filling forming a triangle. Place wonton triangles on a parchment lined cookie sheet that has been sprayed with cooking spray. Place on middle rack in the oven and bake for 13 minutes. They will be slightly browned around the edges. Serve hot with the spicy maple yogurt dip and extra maple syrup. Makes about 45 wontons.
